Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch painter who became famous after his death. He had a turbulent life. In a fit of dementia, he cut off his left ear. It was the first of a series of breakdowns. He was convinced that painting would help him to heal. Vincent painted works of art that expressed his feelings. The colours and shapes do not always correspond to reality but fit his feelings and thoughts. That was special in his time.
His painting Starry Night is one of the world's most famous works of art. Vincent didn't like it and even considered it a failure. The painting is now on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Vincent is also famous for his paintings of sunflowers. Sunflowers symbolize gratitude to him. Vincent van Gogh painted for 10 years, passing away in 1890 when he was 37. He is considered one of the greatest painters of all time.
